The Gospel’s Getting Louder
And I don’t mean the western evangelical worldview (Before that train leaves the station) I mean the Good News and the Living Word of God.
It’s like the difference you feel on a still, warm summer day when an ever so gentle breeze picks up:
Nobody comments on it, but your body feels it, and your conscious mind doesn’t even register the change.
What does it feel like in the world right now? What is the climate? What is the social, cultural, spiritual thermostat reading?
It’s hidden in between everything we say and read and hear:
“Who will save us?”
The noise of the extremes, the terribly polarizing positions and conversations, the urgency of action and imminence of violence, are overwhelming.
“There has got to be another- a better way…”
This is hardly a conscious thought, hardly an explicable feeling, and maybe it comes to us in not so many (or few) words.
But it is True; and I don’t mean ‘right/true’ vs. ‘wrong/false’, I mean it is honest. It is the true-est thing. A deep, and pure conviction, a magnetic field, orienting us North. One that we are as aware of as that oh-so-subtle change of the wind.
-
The Gospel is getting louder because it appears oh so much brighter against the ever darkening patterns of the world.
The Gospel is getting clearer because it appears so much more Good than the increasingly transparent evils that lurk behind schemes and powers.
The Good News is that it has always been speaking - if we care to listen.
The Good News is that it has always been Good and True - if we care to seek it
The Gospel is getting louder the way that silence fills a room.
-
Let me be clear.
This is not *your* conscience, or *your* morals. This is not your idea of good and it is not original, or new, it is not of an ideology, culture, or society that we have dreamt up from history or that you have stumbled upon in your ‘enlightened’ psyche.
It is not the ‘winning argument’.
This ‘Good News’ is only Good and we only recognize it as such, contrasted with the state of the world, precisely because it is not of this world. It’s source is some-where, some-thing, some-one else, and it is not where we have sought it.
We do not control it.
And we definitely have not created it.
-
If you hear this.
If you know this.
If you (‘feel’ is the wrong word) have an inexplicable understanding that; “This is what the world needs.”
Let it still you.
The same way you would the gentle breeze that brought peace, and respite from the rising heat of the day.
